festival 2008 ~ artists ~ wa country music awards ~ programme Wadumbah Noongar Dance Group
The Purpose of Wadumbah Dance Group is to keep the spirit of Aboriginal culture alive, to enhance the pride of Aboriginal people, to educate people from all walks of life and to bridge the gap between Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people.
Wadumbah's repertoire includes dances from throughout Western Australia, but it mainly performs Noongar dances from the South West of Western Australia. Wadumbah have successfully performed at various festivals in Perth, throughout the state and overseas and have built up a reputation of being extremely reliable and professional. The dance perfomances are fully choreographed, powerful and full of life, leaving the audience fullfilled and awash with enthusiasm.
There are a few dancers who have been through the ranks of Wadumbah over 14 years, trained by James T Webb and the men in the dance group. About twelve in all. The men come and go, they take a break from the group and do other things which may include continuing cultural activities.
One member of the group was accepted into NIDA in Sydney and completed the course with flying colours after three years of study in 2006. Twelve months prior with Wadumbah and a trip to LA in the USA (2004) with the group gave him the skills to tackle this with confidence.
