The Boyup Brook Country Music Festival
13 -17 February 2013
|
| The Boyup Brook Country Music Festival is Western
Australia’s premier Country Music Festival - 5 big days of music, fun
and laughter.
This event is particularly important to Western Australia as it is the biggest showcase for Country Music in this State.
With public support the event has grown from a one day festival to five
days of live country music. This brings the grass roots of country music
to Boyup Brook, where followers can experience a blend of national
artists and original artists from Western Australia in a friendly,
country setting.
In 2013, once again, the Festival attracted all ages, providing a friendly atmosphere of entertainment and a great getaway.
|
Wednesday 13th February saw many caravans arriving in town, with the caravan and camping grounds quickly filling.
|
|
And that evening the entertainment began with
fine local wines and a finger buffet at the Art Awards, and a 'Pink
Note' event held on the Hockey Oval with all proceeds going to charity.
Performers included the very popular Terry Bennetts, Ginger Cox, and one
of WA's very own young 'rising star' Kate Hindle.
|
| Thursday 14th February was a full
day with interested Festival goers attending Bootscooting and Bush
Poetry Workshops, and the Art Exhibition in the Shire Town Hall (which
ran through to the Saturday afternoon). |
| Mid morning Vicki Lee, accompanied by Terry Bennetts and Ginger Cox, joined the
congregation at a special service at the local Anglican Church. |
Meanwhile at the local St Mary's School the
students were busy preparing fruit baskets for the Go for 2&5® WA
Country Music Awards which were being held later that evening.
|
| The day culminated with the Festival's first full evening's programme at the Music Park featuring Spoonful
of Sugar, Storme and Guy Ghouse, Corey Colum, Kate Linke, Courtney
Conway, Stoney Joe, Carter & Carter and Vicki Lee and Hideaway. |
| Friday 15th February was another great
day beginning with two Hot Country Morning Shows at Harvey Dickson's
Music Centre. It is a very unique venue and one our artists and patrons
love. |
|
Later that morning up and coming WA artists were invited to two workshops hosted by Adam Harvey and Kasey Chambers.
|
|
The Lotterywest Hot Country Variety Show
on the Centre Stage in the town was a great success, with many well
known performers delighting the crowd, including Bush Poets, Nadia
Colbourn, Corey Colum and Jane Germain and Ian Simpson.
|
|
That evening it was the Go for 2&5® 2013 WA Country Music Awards
as well as a host of other artists, including The Seals, Ghost Hotel and
Adam Harvey providing the entertainment.
Spoonful of Sugar's lead vocalist Karin Page, along
with Jonny Taylor and Jennifer Renee claimed two awards each. |
Saturday 16th February was a huge day
starting with Bush Poets and the Lotterywest Street Carnival which
included markets, buskers, street entertainers and the famous Boyup Ute
& Truck Muster and Parade.
|
This day the Centre Stage, sponsored by the
South West Development Commission, promoted those on the cusp of
national fame and also talented newcomers to West Australian Country
Music.
And as usual Doopa Dog's stage performance enchanted our younger audience.
|
Being Saturday the Music Park entertainment kicked off at noon and what a programme it was.
Artists included the Fancy Brothers, Codee Lee,
Allan Spowart and Wildfire, Storme, Renegade, Vicki Lee and Hideaway,
Courtney Conway, the Mucky Duck Bush Band, Billy Higginson and the Pale
Moon Riders, the Jonny Taylor Band, Bob Corbett and the Roo Grass Band,
Amber Lawrence, Carter & Carter, Kasey Chambers and ended with
Morgan Evans. There was something for everyone.
|
It was a great evening, enjoyed by all.
|
|
Sunday 17th February was, sadly
for many, the final day of the 2013 Boyup Brook Country Music Festival,
but it was still packed with first class entertainment.
Staring at 7am, early risers thoroughly enjoyed the biggest Bush Poet's Breakfast in WA.
|
This was followed by the Gospel section led by
Merelyn and David Carter supported by Billy Higginson and the Pale Moon
Riders, Vicki Lee, Kate Linke accompanied by Codee Lee and Rachel
Dillon.
|
As the Jonny Taylor Band and Billy Higginson
and the Pale Moon Riders entertained the crowd the heavens opened.
Thankfully it stopped raining while Bill Chambers performed.
|
And the sun shone for the rest of the Festival.
The Fancy Brothers, Bob Corbett and the Roo Grass Band, Amber Lawrence,
Carter & Carter, and Adam Harvey completed the programme.
|
The Festival was brought to a close with Adam leading members of the Committee in our Finale Song, 'We've Done Us Proud', and ended with Adam being joined on stage by Bob
Corbett an the Roo Grass Band, Amber Lawrence and Carter & Carter.
|
|
